Kids - Exploring the Arts through the Calvin and Hobbes Comic Strip

ID : 2695
« back to classes page
Calvin and Hobbes follows the humorous antics of Calvin, a precocious, mischievous, and adventurous six-year-old boy, and Hobbes, his sarcastic stuffed tiger. The comic strip is not only funny; it is a great education in art, literature, politics, and philosophy. Students will explore ways in which Calvin and Hobbes combines ideas from many art forms to build original, ever-changing cartoons. Using Calvin and Hobbes cartoons as inspiration, we will make our own experiments in drawing, painting, storytelling, and poetry. Finally, we will use what we learn to take on the biggest mystery in comics' history: Why is Calvin and Hobbes creator Bill Watterson hiding, and why hasn't he given us anything new for twenty two years? Open to students in rising grades 3 - 8.
