Become a heavy equipment operator and earn an industry recognized credential. The Heavy Equipment Operator Level 1 class was developed to help students gain the skills to enter this field and to meet the growing employment demands for equipment operators. Students will learn the following content in a self-paced, web-based learning system: orientation to the trade, heavy equipment safety, identification of heavy equipment, basic operational techniques, utility tractors, introduction to earth moving, and interpreting civil drawings. At specified periods during the training, students attend scheduled sessions at a simulator training lab, to perform simulator exercises for equipment basic controls, loading and unloading, excavating, and trenching. Students receive hands-on training in the lab with state of the art simulators that replicate real-life operating scenarios through rotation-motion platforms and high-resolution 3-D displays for excavator and wheel loader equipment.
